Going The Distance: Raising Money for GI Cancel Trials & the Stroke Foundation

As a team at McGrath Aspley, we’re immensely proud of the contributions our team make to the wider community on a regular basis. We are so lucky to be in a position where we get to meet and connect with so many different groups, and whether it’s contributing to a local event, sporting club, charity, or giving up time to help someone out, it’s these moments that are close to our hearts. On behalf of the whole team, we’re sharing this update to congratulate and thank Claire McGrath (Our Director & Investment Specialist), and her son Connor, on an incredible initiative they have undertaken.

2026 World Triathlon Championships in Spain

Despite both leading fast-paced and busy lives working and studying, Claire & Connor have been training incredibly hard on another endeavour. In September, they will both be representing Australia in their respective age groups at the World Triathlon Championships in Spain. To say they’ve just “qualified” for this would be a understatement. The preparation, training, mental strength and determination to make it to the Championships can only really be understood by someone who has done it.

While they will both be doing everything possible to put in a strong showing in the Triathlon, Claire & Connor have made their journey about something more than sport. It’s an opportunity to raise money and give back to something very close to home.

Participating at the Championships isn’t something that’s paid for. The initial goal for this incredible pair is to raise the $7,000 required to get to Spain and pull on the Green & Gold.

Every dollar they raise after this will be donated to two charities that they’ve carefully selected; GI (Gastro-Intestinal) Cancer Trials, and the Stroke Foundation.

Raising Funds for GI Cancer Trials & the Stroke Foundation

Bowel Cancer and Stroke affect so many Australians each year, and this year, both impacted the McGrath family. Claire’s Mum (Connor’s Grandmother) suffered a stroke and passed away a few months ago. She was known to our wider team and many of our clients; she was an incredibly outgoing person with a bright and positive outlook, and her loss was a huge shock that has affected many lives. Two dearly close friends were also lost this year, to Bowel Cancer.

Through this event, Claire & Connor hope to honour those who have been lost while inspiring others through resilience, community and the pursuit of something bigger than ourselves.

Fundraising Event at Customs House

On Friday, 28 August 2026, they hosted a Long Lunch at Customs House, with sales from tickets and raffles helping to raise funds for the respective charities.

We are beyond grateful for the partners who sponsored and contributed to this, and for everyone who came along to show their support.
